Listener Numbers for Sports Country Radio Up Again!

Sports Country Radio logoListener numbers for Sports Country Radio increased for the third straight month in July. Gene Gumbs, station owner and GM, made the announcement Monday morning on his live morning show, The Wake-up Call.

“It’s really thanks to the people producing the great podcasts we run every weekday,” Gumbs said. “I know our listener numbers are up on the morning show, too, but that’s only a two-hour block. So, there’s no doubt that the other shows are drawing a following too.”

Gumbs also said that he believes adding some live sports programming helped too.

“We started doing some Middletown American Legion baseball this summer, and that started to draw a good following as time went on too. Going forward, we hope to be able to do a little bit more of that with some of the local schools.”

Gumbs also indicated the station added a new podcast in July, The Donut Bag, a sports/pop culture show produced in Pittsburgh, which now runs every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.

“We’re definitely not satisfied,” Gumbs continued this morning. “We want to continue growing. I am constantly searching for new shows to add to our lineup, but it’s important to find the right ones. We like shows that seem sustainable and whose hosts present them professionally.”

Sports programming on the station begins every weekday morning at 8:00 with The Wake-up Call, a two-hour live show that recaps the previous day’s sports action, and also touches on current events and the world of entertainment. In addition, the show features a few songs from the Sports Country Radio archives.

Sports Country Radio is based in Middletown, Connecticut, and went on the air in May of 2018. It features sports programming all day, and plays classic country music (and a little of the new stuff too) every evening and on the weekends. The station also carries the audio version of the Pete Mezzetti television show every Saturday at 6 PM. It also has a two-hour country gospel music show each Sunday starting at 9 AM.
