Launched in 2018 in Middletown, Connecticut, Sports Country Radio has been a long-time dream of owner Gene Gumbs. With a career that includes 25 years in college athletics, ten years working in minor league baseball, and a five-year stint with Major League Baseball Advanced Media, Gene has a wide range of knowledge and a wealth of contacts around the country.
The station will feature sports talk from 8:00 AM-6:00 PM Eastern every weekday. Starting at 6:00 until the next morning, the station will play classic country music – with a little of the new stuff thrown in too.
A longtime fan of Don Imus, Gene will be hosting a morning show every weekday from 9-10 .m., just like his broadcasting hero, featuring the latest sports, news, and other things going on in the world.
The station relocated to Hayesville, North Carolina, in December of 2021, but the format and programming have remained the same.
